Job Description

Title: Lead Teacher
Reports to: Director

A Classroom Lead is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing and child centered learning environment where children can reach the next milestone in their development. With the help of their assistant they tend to the daily needs of children in their care, plan lessons and hands on activities, record observation and assessments, plan family involvement, and attend educational field trips.

Required: Associate’s Degree in ECE or related field with 18 ECE credits and 3-5 years of experience

• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
• Ability to communicate effectively via telephone, email, in writing, in person
• Ability to function independently without constant supervision
• Ability to solve complex and non-routine problems
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs

• Ensure the safety, well being and supervision of all children in your assigned classroom
• Adhere to all DPW regulations, STARS standards, and Today’s Child Learning Centers’ policies and procedures
• Know the names and location of every child in your care
• Keep all children and staff information confidential
• Assist with the set up and maintenance of the classroom centers on a daily basis
• Ensure all areas and shelves are labeled, make sure no blind spots exist, and quiet areas are separate from active areas
• Greet the families and children as they enter and exit your classroom each day
• Create weekly Individualized Lesson Plans using appropriate curriculum and monthly theme for the age group and turn over to the Director by the close of business on every Thursday
• Collect items needed to carry out Lesson Plans prior to the week they are needed
• Teach the Lesson Plan following the Daily Schedule
• Use best practice techniques on child to teacher interactions engaging children at all appropriate times
• Observe and evaluate the children, keeping detailed records and work sampling
• Input assessment data for each child, on-line, three times per year by the appropriate deadline sharing results with parents as required
• Conduct and keep written record of Family/Teacher conferences three times per year
• Participate in monthly Staff Meetings and special events held at center
• Complete daily Attendance and Meal Sheets, turning over to Director each Friday
• Complete daily tidbits for all infant and toddler children in your care and for preschool and school age children when needed
• Serve all meals following CACFP guidelines and TCLC procedures
• Ensure all mandatory classroom postings are in a visible location
• Display children art work on their level throughout the classroom
• Participate in trainings and continuing education classes, ensuring you are taking the required amount of annual yearly training hours and topics
• Interact with Families, addressing concerns and providing support
• Report to work on time each day, and with a positive attitude
• Sign in and out upon arrival, at the start and end of schedule break and upon departure at end of day
• Use positive guidance techniques to redirect behavior
• Perform daily health checks of children, reporting to Director any concerns, including those of child abuse or neglect
• Follow all procedures relating to the release and acceptance of children using TCLC transportation
• Ensure hand washing is being completed throughout the day at the necessary times
• Write Incident Reports when a child is hurt, submit to Director for review before distributing
• Participate in Emergency Preparedness and Fire Drills
• Attend to the health needs of the children
• Maintains PDR
• Follow diapering and toileting procedures at all times
• Be flexible regarding your classroom assignment and schedule
• Check and restock First Aid kit as necessary making sure all items are included with Directors assistance
• Ensure no open containers of food are left out and empty trash at the end of your shift
• All other duties as assigned
